Research participation – Seeking individuals for auditory brain research

Seeking individuals for auditory brain research.

The University of Melbourne are recruiting individuals who have been diagnosed with auditory neuropathy and/or hearing loss for a brain research study.

This research study aims to develop ways to study the auditory system using state of the art magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) techniques that have recently been developed at The Melbourne Brain Centre.

The study will require a visit to the Melbourne Brain Centre (245 Burgundy Rd, Heidelberg). The total time needed for the testing is approximately 1 – 1.5 hours. You will also be required to undergo some hearing tests if this data has not already been collected.

The purpose of this project is to use magnetic resonance imaging to take detailed pictures of your child’s brain, which will help us to get a better understanding of the condition of the auditory system in individuals who present with hearing loss, and in individuals with an auditory processing disorder caused by a condition known as “auditory neuropathy”.

Who can take part?
Individuals with auditory neuropathy and/or hearing loss. Before you make your decision, a member of the research team will be available to answer any questions you have about the research project. You or your child can ask for any information you want. Sign the Consent Form only after you have had a chance to ask your questions and have received satisfactory answers.
