Aussie Deaf Kids has partnered with other consumer representatives to present our views on the Australian Government’s Hearing Services Program (HSP). The Government is currently reviewing the HSP.
Aussie Deaf Kids is supportive of the HSP because it makes a significant difference to people’s lives. The HSP aims to reduce the incidence and consequences of avoidable hearing loss in the Australian community by providing access to high quality hearing services and devices. People who rely on the HSP and parent groups in particular have felt that it has been threatened by various reviews and the introduction of the NDIS and want to make it clear why it is so important to them.
The HSP has two parts:–
- The Voucher component of the HSP is valued for the important services it provides to older Australians on low income who experience hearing loss due to the ageing process.
- The Community Service Obligations (CSO) Program is recognised as being absolutely vital in addressing the needs of children and young people with hearing loss and those who need to receive specialised services.
