Session 2 - Decision-making & bias

Explore this section

What are cognitive biases?

While heuristic and systematic processing work well for us most of the time, they can also let us down.

Studies of these two ways of processing information have highlighted that we make common errors in our thinking, which are known as cognitive biases.

We don’t know we do this.

We subconsciously form wrong impressions and jump to incorrect conclusions about certain situations or circumstances.

Cognitive biases are a mismatch between our judgement, which we believe is true, and reality, what is actually true.

Cognitive biases can lead to poor decision making and this is why it is helpful to understand the risk of cognitive biases.
