Session 1 - Goal setting

Introduction to goal setting

Hello and welcome to Session 1.

Before we launch into learning about making informed decisions, we first want you to take a step back and have a little think about your goals.

The first step before you make any decision is to have an understanding of your goals.

Goals are things you want to do, achieve or make happen.

Goals give you purpose, they motivate you.

They can be short or long term, and there can be many ways of reaching a single goal.

Goals can also differ with people and change over time.

The goals you have for your son or daughter might not be the same as your partner or the professionals you meet.

As your child grows, they should be encouraged to set their own goals, which might also be different to the goals you had for your child when they were younger.

The aim of this course is to help you make better decisions, so you are more likely to achieve the goals you have.

In this session, you will be guided through a simple, three goal approach to help you in identifying your goals.

And this will be the first step to making better decisions for you child and family.
