Using brain waves to assess language abilities in infants and young children with hearing loss
The National Acoustics Laboratories is recruiting participants for the above study which seeks to develop and optimise clinical tests to evaluate whether children with hearing loss can hear speech with and without hearing aids.
Researchers are currently seeking children under two years old with permanent hearing loss in either one or both of their ears to participate in our study. Children with bilateral cochlear implants are not eligible for the study. Children with one implant are eligible for the study.
Participation would involve:
- An in-person appointment where we will measure the child’s brain waves, ask parents to complete some questionnaires and record the parent and child playing (for observation purposes) and
- Two to three remote sessions within two years of the in-person appointment where parents will be asked to repeat some of the questionnaires and record the parent and child playing.
Should parents choose to enrol in this study and meet the eligibility criteria, they will be reimbursed $30/hour for the in-person appointment and an additional $30 for every remote session that is completed.
