Charity donation in lieu of flowers

While flowers have traditionally been a way to offer condolences, many families now prefer donations in lieu of flowers at funerals or memorials. Honoring a loved one through an “In Memory” donation allows mourners to support a cause meaningful to the deceased, offering a lasting and positive impact.

An “In Memory” donation to Aussie Deaf Kids not only commemorates the life of a loved one, but also helps support families with deaf or hard-of-hearing children, making a real difference in their lives.

If placing a notice, families can request donations in lieu of flowers, providing our donation link: Aussie Deaf Kids Donation Link. Alternatively, funeral directors can distribute envelopes at the service.

Suggested wording could be, “The family welcomes donations to Aussie Deaf Kids as an expression of sympathy instead of flowers”, or speak with your funeral director to develop phrasing suited to the individual.

Steps to follow:

1. Inform Funeral Director – arrange donation envelopes or boxes to be present at the service.
2. Contact Aussie Deaf Kids – request guidance, receipts, or a tribute.
3. Communicate clearly – use respectful wording in notices and invitations.
4. Set up donation options – include both in-person and remote options for contributions.
5. Receive acknowledgements – ensure donors get receipts and families receive summaries or thanks.
