A letter to members of the Aussie Deaf Kids Unilateral Hearing Loss Group
In our ongoing commitment to provide you with the best possible online community experience for families with children who have unilateral hearing loss, we are announcing a change in our approach to better serve your needs and interests.
Although Facebook does not permit the merging of our two groups, this is our goal. We are encouraging all members of the Aussie Deaf Kids Unilateral Hearing Loss group to transition to the Aussie Deaf Kids Plus group. Many UHL members have already made this move, recognising that children with unilateral hearing loss now receive many of the same services and supports as children with bilateral hearing loss. We believe that a single, unified group will bring together the best of both worlds, combining our shared interest in supporting children with hearing loss into one vibrant community.
On 15 July 2024, we will pause the Aussie Deaf Kids Unilateral Hearing Loss group. This means that no new members will be accepted, but current members will still be able to access existing posts. However, posting new messages will be disabled.
Why the Change?
Research shows that parent-to-parent support empowers families, enhances knowledge, and promotes the well-being of both the child and family. By transitioning to a single Facebook group, we aim to highlight the many successful ways to raise a child with hearing loss through the lived experiences of our diverse community of families. This unified group will optimise opportunities for our members to learn, make informed decisions, advocate effectively, and feel confident and competent in their abilities.
