Accessibility means making products, services, devices, or places that everyone can use easily, including our children who are deaf or hard of hearing (DHH). Some apps and functionalities can make information more accessible to people who are DHH and allow them to stay informed and connected.
Microsoft and Apple are improving accessibility with tools such as screen readers, captions, and displaying audio alerts visually. Users can tailor their experience on their own devices. Other useful functions for our children with hearing loss include hearing aid and cochlear implant apps that can help them control and adjust their hearing devices, video relay services, voice-to-text apps, Auslan apps, music lyrics apps, and many more.
We should all consider how we can make our publications, presentations, meetings, and communications more accessible for people with disability. Tools such as Accessibility Checker can help us design with accessibility in mind for others.
