August 2009

In this issue

August was a big month, culminating with Hearing Awareness Week from the 23rd to the 29th of August.

Congratulations to Deafness Forum for their organisation of the two day Technology Demonstration for politicians and staff at Parliament House and the Captioning Awards in Sydney. A special mention must go to Kate Locke for winning the Roma Wood OAM Community Award. Many of you will know Kate from her blog about getting a cochlear implant - http://katelocke.wordpress.com/ She has been a tireless campaigner for improving captions on TV and DVD. Well done Kate!

Until next month...

Congratulations to our City2Surf hero

A big thank you must go to Malcolm Cox who raised $1,645 for Aussie Deaf Kids in his first City2Surf run. Mal exceeded his time expectations and his fundraising efforts far exceeded our expectations.

Thank you to everyone who donated to Mal's fundraising campaign. Your support will help us to empower parents by providing them with the information they need to raise their deaf child.
